This session offers a trauma-informed, somatic, and scripturally rooted exploration of shame—how it forms, how it affects the nervous system, and how the Spirit gently leads us from bracing to openness. Ministry leaders often walk with people who instinctively harden, hide, or detach when shame surfaces. Together, we’ll uncover why this happens physiologically and spiritually, and learn a simple body-based practice that helps people soften, receive grace, and reconnect with God and others.
Attendees will walk away with a clearer understanding of the neurobiology of shame, a practical somatic tool they can use personally or in pastoral care, and a theological framework that supports compassionate, Spirit-led responses when shame appears.

Emily is a licensed marriage and family therapist, sex therapist, relationship coach, supervisor, and restoration therapist. She is deeply passionate about love. In her practice she addresses a wide array of relationships, including those with partners, parents, families, bodies, sexualities, spiritualities, and self. Her lifelong dedication to understanding relationships, as both a hobby and a profession, underscores her commitment to love, safety, and equanimity. Her approach to sexual health is holistic, considering how sexuality intersects with various aspects of life. She assists clients with diverse issues such as desire, intimacy, sexual pain, trauma, infidelity, addiction, and other sexual challenges. Her goal is to facilitate peace and trustworthiness in relationships, drawing upon the pillars of love and safety. Outside of work, she cherishes moments with her husband, Finn, and their blended family of seven children, one daughter-in-law, and two precious grandchildren.
