Sexual betrayal wounds far more than trust, intimacy, or emotional security. For a wife, it can strike at something far deeper and more important: her sense of who she was created to be and what her marriage was meant to reveal. Scripture presents marriage as a living picture of the mystery of Christ and His Bride—a microcosm intended to display the very nature and character of the Living God. When sexual betrayal enters marital covenant, the wife experiences something beyond hurt feelings on a horizontal level, but an ontological and teleological wound that goes vertical: “Who am I to God if God gave me a husband who does not reflect Him?” and “What has this failed marriage--a marriage God was witness to at the alter--ever meant to God, and what is this supposed to mean to me now in light of reality?” This session explores the theological depths that should come with this topic, moving beyond surface language of broken trust and hurt feelings to consider the God-given identity and vocation of the bride, the biblical mystery of Christ's marriage to the Church, and how healing can begin when a our story of injury and betrayal is placed back inside the larger story of who God created us to be.
